Eagles Trade Bryce Huff to 49ers: What’s Next for Howie Roseman?
Bryce Huff was the most expensive addition that the Philadelphia Eagles made last offseason. Now fast forward to 2025 and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is trading Huff to the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple reports.
After a disappointing debut season in the City of Brotherly Love, it was clear that Huff was no longer a fit for the Eagles. Yet his sizable contract would seemingly make it difficult to trade him this offseason. Luckily, both sides were willing to renegotiate his contract to make a deal to the 49ers possible.
Once the Huff trade is official and Brandon Graham’s retirement processes on June 1st, Roseman will have two open roster spots to work with. Here are 10 players that the Eagles could target as potential roster additions in the coming weeks:
Blockbuster Trade Targets
Trey Hendrickson is clearly unhappy with the Cincinnati Bengals as he continues to wait for a contract extensions. Hendrickson is one of the best edge rushers in the NFL and should be rewarded as such. If the Bengals are unable to agree to a contract extension with Hendrickson, he could be on the move and the Eagles have five draft picks to offer in the first two days of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Travon Walker is coming off back-to-back double-digit sack seasons following a rough start to his NFL career. Yet there’s a new front office regime and coaching staff in Jacksonville as Waller was reportedly involved in trade rumors back in March. Walker played at Georgia with several Eagles players and Roseman loves to take chances on young players with high draft pedigree.
Kyle Pitts is reportedly a trade target for many teams as Jordan Schultz reported that the Atlanta Falcons have received calls and would need at least a day-two pick to entertain discussions. The Eagles are set to have four day two picks in the 2026 NFL Draft and a long-term need at tight end. Pitts is a Philadelphia native and would likely welcome a return home to join one of the best offenses in the NFL.
Free Agent Targets
Justin Simmons has essentially publicly campaigned to join the Eagles this offseason. While his best days are behind him, Simmons is a veteran safety that has experience working with both Vic Fangio and Christian Parker. Simmons would bring a much-needed veteran presence to Philadelphia’s safety room and immediately challenge for the starting job next to Reed Blankenship in 2025.
Za’Darius Smith isn’t the Pro Bowl edge rusher that he once was but he still has some juice to offer. Smith totaled nine sacks between his time with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions last season. Philadelphia could surely use a bigger, veteran presence on the edge and Smith would certainly check both of those boxes for the Eagles at 6’4”, 270 lbs. with 10 seasons of NFL experience under his belt.
Raekwon Davis was released by the Indianapolis Colts with a non-football illness designation in March. Davis deals with high blood pressure, which held him out of practice with the Colts to start training camp last season. Yet he was eventually cleared and able to play in all 17 games in 2024. Philadelphia is lacking a veteran presence along the defensive line and Davis excelled in his lone season under Fangio in 2023.
Kyzir White is no stranger to Philadelphia, as he started several games for the Eagles in 2022. White followed Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals after one season with the Eagles. Now White is still available on the open market as the Eagles are dealing with uncertainty at linebacker while Nakobe Dean and Jihaad Campbell both recover from major injuries. If the Eagles want to add a proven veteran at the position, White certainly fits that mold.
Other Trade Targets
Darnell Washington has settled into the TE2 role behind Pat Freiermuth for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yet the Steelers are reportedly interested in trading for Jonnu Smith and also signed Donald Parham Jr. in free agency. If Pittsburgh is willing to trade Washington, the Eagles should certainly give them a call. The 23-year-old has two years remaining on his rookie contract and spent time at Georgia with several Eagles players.
Michael Mayer is in a similar situation as Washington, as he is stuck behind Brock Bowers in Las Vegas. The Eagles don’t currently have a tight end under contract past 2025, while both Mayer and Washington each have two years remaining on their rookie contracts. Mayer is a former second-round pick that has yet to reach his potential in the NFL. But that hasn’t scared Roseman away from taking chances on players with high draft pedigree before.
A.J. Epenesa has recorded 21.5 total sacks in five seasons with the Buffalo Bills. Yet he’s heading into a contract year and Buffalo has decided to make significant investments at edge rusher in Greg Rousseau, Joey Bosa and Landon Jackson this offseason. If the Bills are willing to trade Epenesa, I could certainly see Roseman being intrigued by his combination of age (26-years old) and experience (75 games played) on the edge.
