Eagles Practice Rundown: Dallas Goedert ‘Stoked’ To Return, Bryce Huff Absent
The Philadelphia Eagles hit the indoor practice field on Wednesday due to the weather, as the second day of OTAs was open to the media. While NFL teams are forced to dial back practice a bit during OTAs, it does offer an early glimpse at the state of the roster ahead of training camp.
Although we don’t have media credentials here at The Philly Special Show, I’m going to do my best to cover the Eagles from a distance. Following each practice, I’ll gather information from the great reporters in attendance, broadcasted press conferences and add my own thoughts on it all here for the Eagles Practice Rundown!
Eagles Roll Call
Wednesday’s practice was voluntary for the Eagles and there were a few notable players absent from the session. According to multiple reports, there were 10 total players that did not participate in Philadelphia’s indoor practice.
Lane Johnson
Landon Dickerson
Cam Jurgens
Ben VanSumeren
DeVonta Smith
Avery Williams
Jihaad Campbell
Nakobe Dean
Reed Blankenship
Bryce Huff
Lane Johnson, DeVonta Smith, Avery Williams, Reed Blankenship and Bryce Huff were not in attendance at practice on Wednesday. Huff’s absence is especially noteworthy given his disappointing debut season for the Eagles and his inclusion in trade rumors this offseason.
Cam Jurgens, Jihaad Campbell and Nakobe Dean were all reportedly spotted at practice but did not participate in any drills due to injury. Both Landon Dickerson and Ben VanSumeren were not in attendance at practice, likely due to injury.
Eagles On-Field Practice Reports
After primarily playing slot CB during his rookie season, Cooper DeJean received reps at outside CB during team drills in their base defensive formation on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. While the Eagles didn’t play a ton of base defense last season, it could be a look that Philadelphia will utilize once both Jihaad Campbell and Nakobe Dean are healthy at LB.
Since Campbell and Dean were unable to participate in practice due to injuries, the next man up at LB alongside Zack Baun with the first-team defense was reportedly Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Despite selecting Smael Mondon Jr. in the 2025 NFL Draft, Trotter is in the lead to begin OTAs.
When the Eagles were in their first-team nickel defense, both Kelee Ringo and Adoree’ Jackson rotated in as the second outside CB. Although it’s worth noting that Jackson took significantly more reps with the first-team defense than Ringo did on Wednesday, according to Andrew DiCecco of Inside The Birds.
While many were excited to see who would start at safety alongside Reed Blankenship, his absence muddied the picture a bit. Sydney Brown and Drew Mukuba started at safety with the first-team defense, according to multiple reports. Lewis Cine and Andre’ Sam also received snaps with the first-team defense at safety.

Flipping over to the offensive side of the ball, Philadelphia was missing three starters along the offensive line. Eagles OL coach Jeff Stoutland reportedly went with the following first-team offensive line group: LT Jordan Mailata, LG Matt Pryor, C Brett Toth, RG Tyler Steen, RT Darian Kinnard.
The competition between Steen and Kenyon Green will obviously be one to watch throughout training camp. Although it seems like Steen has an early lead for the starting job at right guard, as expected given his experience with the Eagles.
Stoutland had an old friend giving him a hand at practice as Zach Berman of PHLY pointed out that former Eagles center Jason Kelce was spotted with the OL. I spoke to Trevor Keegan at the Eagles Autism Challenge last week and he mentioned how he wished Kelce was still on the team so that he could pick his brain. Well it seems like Keegan may have got his wish for at least one day during Wednesday’s practice.
Jalen Hurts reportedly looked sharp during team drills as he reportedly connected with Dallas Goedert several times. Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation also mentioned that Hurts completed two passes to Jahan Dotson as well. Dotson is heading into a contract year and will certainly look to build on his impressive performance in Super Bowl LIX.
Tanner McKee looked good in his practice debut as QB2 in front of the media. Dorian Thompson-Robinson served as Philadelphia’s QB3 and Kyle McCord was QB4, although neither player reportedly received many reps during team drills.
Will Shipley worked as the team’s RB2 ahead of A.J. Dillon and spent time with the starters when Saquon Barkley sat out of team drills. Shipley hauled in several receptions as he showcased his ability as a pass catcher, according to multiple reports.
Eagles on the Mic
Five members of the Eagles spoke to the media on Wednesday. Here’s what they said!
Kevin Patullo spoke to the media in Philadelphia for the first time since being promoted to offensive coordinator. Patullo was asked how Philadelphia’s offense might look in 2025. “You’ll see some new wrinkles here and there,” Patullo said. “But moreso, it’s just kind of building on what our players do best.”
After being spotted at outside CB during practice, Cooper DeJean was asked about the challenge of playing there. DeJean admitted that it’s “definitely a tall task.” But he said that he would be willing to play outside CB, slot CB or safety for the Eagles.
Quinyon Mitchell primarily played right outside cornerback as a rookie, while Darius Slay played on the left side. Yet Mitchell revealed that he’s been playing on both sides. “I’ve been working on both sides,” Mitchell said. “Just getting my feet wet on both sides.” Could this be the start of Mitchell eventually traveling with the opposing team’s top WR? We’ll see.
While Dallas Goedert is excited to be back in Philadelphia, he admitted that there was a chance that he didn’t return to the Eagles. “There was a little bit of uncertainty going into the offseason,” Goedert said. “We came to the agreement of the contract I'm on, and I'm super stoked to be back here.”
Jalyx Hunt was very honest during his press conference, as he admitted how much more knowledgeable he is heading into his second year in the NFL. “I just know a lot more,” Hunt said. “So I’ve been able to approach my game in a more professional way by figuring out what moves I want to work on, who I should watch, what I should watch and being a lot more technical.”
