Eagles Throw Another Dart, Sign EDGE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman broke some news while speaking with reporters at the 2026 NFL Annual League Meeting. Roseman revealed that the Eagles are signing edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to a one-year deal. The former first-round pick is just the latest dart throw for Philadelphia this offseason.
Tryon-Shoyinka was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first-round of the 2021 NFL Draft. While the soon-to-be 27-year-old hasn’t lived up to his draft status, he has shown flashes throughout his NFL career. Tryon-Shoyinka checks a few boxes that Roseman and his staff are normally intrigued by.
Tryon-Shoyinka is a former high draft pick, similar to both Arnold Ebiketie and Elijah Moore, who also signed one-year deals with the Eagles this offseason. All three players were selected in the top 40 of their respective drafts and will be 27-years old or younger next season. They each all showed flashes with their original teams and then saw their roles diminish last season.
Now all three players will look to revitalize their careers in Philadelphia. The City of Brotherly Love has proved to be a launching point for many players in a contract year, including Isaiah Rodgers, Zack Baun, Jaelan Phillips and others. If an agent is looking to find their client a promising landing spot on a one-year deal, Philadelphia certainly isn’t a bad option.
Tryon-Shoyinka is joining an edge rusher group that includes Ebiketie, Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt and Jose Ramirez. At 6’5” and 260 lbs., Tryon-Shoyinka brings size to a room that was lacking such a presence following the departure of Phillips in free agency. He also has 34” arms, which Ebiketie also possesses.
While many will compare Philadelphia signing “JTS” and Ebiketie to the team signing Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche last offseason, I don’t necessarily see the similarities. Both Tryon-Shoyinka and Ebiketie have experience in coverage and have also contributed on special teams at times throughout their careers.
That wasn’t necessarily the case for Ojulari and Uche, who struggled to find a consistent role in Philadelphia last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Ojulari and Uche combined to play 311 coverage snaps before signing with the Eagles. Meanwhile, Tryon-Shoyinka has played 375 coverage snaps in the NFL.
It’s safe to say that I’m incredibly intrigued by Tryon-Shoyinka’s combination of size, length and coverage experience. He brings another unique skillset to Philadelphia and I’m excited to see what Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio can do with both of Roseman’s dart throws at edge rusher in 2026.
