Eagles Practice Notes: August 11, 2026

The Philadelphia Eagles took the field for one of their longest practices of training camp at the Jefferson Health Training Complex on Tuesday. Luckily, we were invited to attend the Eagles practice and I tried my best to compile notes throughout the day. While our view was limited to certain areas at times, here are all of my notes and takeaways from Tuesday’s practice.

Special Teams

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott attempted six field goals at different lengths around the start of Tuesday’s practice. Here is a closer look at Elliott’s six attempts:

  • ✅ 30-yards

  • ✅ 35-yards

  • ✅ 40-yards

  • ✅ 44-yards

  • ✅ 46-yards

  • ✅ 50-yards

Elliott went 6-for-6 on the day and there was a decent enough amount of wind to at least move the flags at the top of the uprights. It was certainly an encouraging showing from Elliott after last season.

The Eagles then had five different kickoff returners practice in teams of two on either downing the ball if it landed in the end zone or bringing it out if it was short of the end zone. The five kickoff returners were:

  • Darius Cooper

  • Tank Bigsby

  • Will Shipley

  • Elijah Moore

  • Britain Covey

I thought it was an interesting drill to see the team go through given the kickoff struggles last season.

If the ball was short of the end zone, whoever didn’t catch it would sprint ahead and pretend to block. If the ball landed in the end zone, whoever didn’t catch it would tell the other player to kneel.

1-on-1 Passing Drills

We had a great view for the team’s 1-on-1 session between the pass catchers and defenders. While the quarterbacks rotated throughout the session, I did my best to jot down the participants and outcome of each 1-on-1 matchup on the day.

  • Hollywood Brown gets open against Quinyon Mitchell but drops the pass

  • Dontayvion Wicks beats Riq Woolen on an out-breaking route and hauls it in

  • Elijah Moore wins against Cooper DeJean on an out-breaking route with ease

  • Darius Cooper makes a tough catch with Kelee Ringo close in coverage

  • Mac McWilliams breaks up a pass intended for Samori Toure

  • Jakorian Bennett stays close in coverage against Quez Watkins and the ball is out of reach

  • Brandon Hayes wins against Shaun Wade

  • Britain Covey shakes free from Cooper DeJean on an out-breaking route

  • Erik Ezukanma runs past Tariq Castro-Fields and lays out for a deep pass but is unable to bring it in

  • Ambry Thomas shuts down Dontayvion Wicks

  • Elijah Moore gets past Mac McWilliams but the ball is overthrown

  • Quinyon Mitchell runs the route for Hollywood Brown and hauls in an interception

  • Darius Cooper beats Riq Woolen on an out-breaking route

  • Samori Toure beats Cooper DeJean on a shot down the field

  • Quez Watkins brings in a pass against Jakorian Bennett

  • Erik Ezukanma gets past Kelee Ringo but the ball is overthrown

  • Britain Covey is unfair in this 1-on-1 setting as he shakes Shaun Wade with ease for another catch

  • Quinyon Mitchell gets tangled up with Hollywood Brown and ends up talking to a team trainer

  • Samori Toure wins against Mac McWilliams

Team Drills

Following the 1-on-1 matchups, the Eagles went into the first 11-on-11 session of the day. While the team mixed in team drills throughout the entire practice, I’m going to everything that I was able to see throughout the day during the team sessions here.

It’s worth noting that I was only able to see the 11-on-11 or 7-on-7 sessions on the field that we were closest to. The Eagles often have two team sessions going on at the same time, which could cause some variance in what’s reported (or not) from those in attendance. Here’s what I wrote down throughout the team sessions that I was able to watch on Tuesday.

First-team offense vs. First-team defense (11-on-11)

  • Jalen Hurts hands off to Saquon Barkley from under center but Jalyx Hunt swims past Jordan Mailata for a run stop

  • Jalen Hurts inside handoff to Saquon Barkley from pistol and he’s stuffed for little to no gain by Jihaad Campbell

  • Jalen Hurts outside handoff to Saquon Barkley from shotgun and he’s stopped by Jalen Carter

Second-team offense vs. Second-team defense (11-on-11)

  • Andy Dalton hands off to Tank Bigsby from under center for a five-yard gain

  • Andy Dalton play-action pass from under center to Darius Cooper falls incomplete

  • Andy Dalton play-action under center pass to Darius Cooper complete but offense called for a false start

  • Andy Dalton play-action under center pass ruined by a would-be sack by Byron Young

Third-team offense vs. Third-team defense (11-on-11)

  • Tanner McKee hands off to Will Shipley for a four-yard gain and stopped by Smael Mondon Jr.

  • Erik Ezukanma pre-snap motion from out wide to behind Eli Stowers and then Tanner McKee play-action pass from under center to Stowers for a short gain in the flat

  • Tanner McKee shotgun pass to Erik Ezukanma on the left side for a first down

First-team offense vs. First-team defense (7-on-7)

  • Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks on the right side, Dallas Goedert and Johnny Mundt on the left side with Saquon Barkley in the backfield, Jalen Hurts completes pass to Goedert on the left side for a short gain

  • Jalen Hurts checks down to Saquon Barkley in the middle of the field after scanning the field

  • Jalen Hurts to Elijah Moore in the middle of the field on a pivot route

  • Jalen Hurts to Darius Cooper on an impressive sideline catch against Mac McWilliams

  • Jalen Hurts to Johnny Mundt over the middle of the field on a drag route

  • Jalen Hurts throws an absolute dime to Quez Watkins deep down the right sideline and it’s dropped by Watkins

Second-team offense vs. Second-team defense (7-on-7)

  • Tanner McKee to Grant Calcaterra on a comeback route on the right side

  • Tanner McKee dumps off to Tank Bigsby in the flat on the left side

  • Tanner McKee perfectly layers a pass over the defense to Samori Toure near the right sideline

  • Tanner McKee to Carson Steele in the flat on the left side

Third-team offense vs. Second-team defense (7-on-7)

  • Cole Payton to Stone Smartt in the flat on the right side

  • Cole Payton to Stone Smartt on a hitch route over the middle of the field

First-team offense vs. Second-team defense (11-on-11)

  • Jalen Hurts in shotgun hands off to Saquon Barkley for a short gain

  • Dontayvion Wicks used in a return motion on the right side, Jalen Hurts hands off to Saquon Barkley for a big gain down the left side for a first down

  • Britain Covey used in a motion into the backfield, Jalen Hurts play-action pass to Elijah Moore is broken up by Jakorian Bennett

  • Jalen Hurts sacked by Ty Robinson on an under-center play-action pass attempt (more of a coverage sack)

  • Jalen Hurts handoff to Tank Bigsby on the right side for a short gain

  • Jalen Hurts sacked by A.J. Epenesa but they kept the play going and Hurts completed a short pass to Grant Calcaterra

  • Jalen Hurts toss to Tank Bigsby from under center for a huge gain down the left sideline with Jordan Mailata and Johnny Mundt leading the way

  • Jalen Hurts throws a deep touchdown to Elijah Moore on a play-action pass from under center, Moore punted the ball onto the roof of the team’s facility to celebrate

Third-team offense vs. Third-team defense (11-on-11)

  • Cole Payton under-center play-action pass to Eli Stowers in the flat for four-yards

  • Cole Payton runs for a one-yard loss after bailing pocket on an under-center play-action pass

  • Cole Payton drops the snap but still finds Britain Covey for a first down completion

  • Carson Steele runs to the left side for one-yard

  • Carson Steele runs for another short gain down the middle

  • Britain Covey motions into the backfield with Carson Steele, Cole Payton keeps the ball and runs down the left sideline for a solid gain

First-team offense vs. First-team defense (11-on-11)

  • Jalen Hurts handoff from under center to Saquon Barkley for a run to the right side for a short gain

  • Jalen Hurts handoff from under center to Saquon Barkley for a run to the left side but he’s tackled for a loss by Jalyx Hunt

  • Jalen Hurts under-center play-action pass to Dontayvion Wicks with a toe-drag haul with Riq Woolen in coverage

  • Jalyx Hunt blows up a under-center play-action pass attempt and sacks Jalen Hurts but the play kept going and Hurts ran for a short gain

  • Jalen Hurts forced to throw from an awkward angle to Saquon Barkley for a short gain but he couldn’t bring it in

  • Jalen Carter sacks Jalen Hurts but they keep the play going and Hurts completes a pass to Darius Cooper on a comeback route on the left sideline

  • Cameron Latu in motion from out wide to across the formation, Jalen Hurts hands off to Tank Bigsby for a short gain and is stopped by Andrew Mukuba and Jalyx Hunt

  • Jalen Hurts alerts the pass catchers in an empty formation and connects with Dallas Goedert over the middle against Marcus Epps

  • Jalen Hurts hands off to Saquon Barkley towards the right sideline for a short gain, who is stopped by Mac McWilliams

  • Jalen Hurts hands off to Saquon Barkley on an inside run between a massive hole created by Tyler Steen and Cam Jurgens that would’ve went for a massive gain (and potentially a touchdown) in a game

Unfortunately, we were then asked to move back to a different part of the field and I couldn’t watch the rest of that final session.

Final Takeaways

Overall, Tuesday’s practice was all over the place with a lot of different personnel groupings mixed in that didn’t necessarily matched the “team” that it was supposed to be. For example, Cameron Latu, Quez Watkins and Britain Covey worked with the first-team offense for a snap or two, at times.

Regardless of some of the weird quirks with the personnel groupings, here are my final takeaways:

  • Jalen Carter and Jalyx Hunt are legitimate game-wreckers. They both registered multiple TFLs or would-be sacks during team drills.

  • Darius Cooper and Elijah Moore each had multiple catches from Jalen Hurts today during team drills. I expect the Eagles to spread the ball around a lot more in 2026.

  • This isn’t news but Tank Bigsby is incredibly explosive and other players feel his presence, even on the practice field.

  • Mac McWilliams held his own in team drills when he replaced Quinyon Mitchell. That’s promising for the second-year CB.

  • Both Byron Young and Ty Robinson each recorded a would-be sack during team drills. Robinson had one against the first-team offense.

  • Solid amount of motion from the offense and even some plays with wide receivers motioning into the backfield before the snap.

That’s all for my notes from Tuesday’s practice at Jefferson Health Training Complex. Thanks for reading!
