Eagles-Giants Game Preview: Who Will Win in Week 9?

The Philadelphia Eagles will host the New York Giants for a divisional matchup at Lincoln Financial Field in Week 9. Both teams appear to be heading in opposite directions as the Eagles have lost six consecutive games, while the Giants are currently in first place in the NFC East. Here’s my full game preview for Sunday’s showdown between the Eagles and the Giants in the City of Brotherly Love.

Three Storylines To Follow

The Bazooka Joe Experience

The Eagles officially announced that Joe Milton will be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 9. After former starting quarterback Tanner McKee failed to impress in three games as QB1, Philadelphia is hoping that Milton can provide the spark that they desperately need. At 6’5” and 236 lbs. with a rocket of an arm, Milton possesses the intangibles that are hard to find at the position.

While the Eagles signed Milton less than one month ago, they’re clearly ready to see what he can do. The 26-year-old hasn’t played a ton in the NFL but he did show flashes of his potential in Week 18 of his rookie season, where he played all but three snaps against the Buffalo Bills. Milton has the arm talent to make any throw on the football field, yet he’s also wildly inaccurate at times. The Eagles must be ready to embrace the ups and downs of the Bazooka Joe experience in Week 9.

Trade Deadline Showcase

The Eagles have lost six consecutive games and the NFL’s trade deadline is less than one week away on November 10. Therefore, many expect Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to be active in the coming days. Given the team’s struggles, it would make sense for Philadelphia to operate as sellers and for the Eagles to showcase a few potentially available players on Sunday against the Giants.

Eagles veteran wide receiver Hollywood Brown is likely near the top of that list, as he only has four catches this season. If Philadelphia wants to move him ahead of the trade deadline, it would make sense to get him a bit more involved on Sunday. Other players that reportedly could be available are Riq Woolen, Moro Ojomo and Dallas Goedert. It’ll be interesting to see if the Eagles try to give anyone else an unexpectedly bigger opportunity in Week 9.

Uno Reverse Card

In 2025, the Eagles traveled on the road to visit the Giants as 7.5-point favorites and were embarrassed on Thursday Night Football, losing 34-17. The Giants jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. New York leaned on a physical approach that Philadelphia simply wasn’t ready to handle as they likely assumed that the game was going to be a walk in the park.

Fast forward to Week 9 this season and the roles have been changed. The Giants are now traveling on the road to visit the Eagles as 3.5-point favorites. Can Philadelphia give New York a taste of their own medicine and play a Uno reverse card this time around? We’ll see. The Eagles made an unexpected change at quarterback by turning to Milton and it could give Philadelphia the edge that they’re seeking as home underdogs on Sunday.

Two Underrated Players To Watch For

Eli Stowers

The Eagles selected tight end Eli Stowers in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. While Stowers didn’t make his regular season debut until Week 7, he showed plenty of promise down the final stretch last week as he hauled in five receptions for 53 yards. Philadelphia should continue to get Stowers more involved as the regular season progresses, especially given the team’s current losing streak. The 23-year-old tight end possesses rare athletic traits that the Eagles should attempt to develop and maximize moving forward.

Patrick Ricard

While the Giants could be without starting running back Cam Skattebo, New York’s rushing attack won’t be lacking much physicality. Giants fullback Patrick Ricard followed John Harbaugh over from the Baltimore Ravens and has helped set the tone in New York. At 6’3” and 300 lbs., Ricard is essentially another offensive lineman out there and the Giants aren’t afraid to hide their intentions when he’s on the field. New York has run the ball on 137 of their 182 snaps (75.3%) while Ricard is on the field. The Eagles must be ready to match Ricard’s physicality.

One Key Matchup To Monitor

Jordan Mailata vs. Abdul Carter

Eagles starting left tackle Jordan Mailata has grown into a shutdown, blindside protector in Philadelphia. Yet that hasn’t always been the case this season, as Mailata has allowed a sack in back-to-back games. While McKee’s lack of mobility certainly didn’t help Mailata, he’ll need to be better against New York’s defensive front — especially second-year edge rusher Abdul Carter.

While Carter has only recorded two sacks in 2026, he leads New York’s defense with 25 total pressures. The 23-year-old records quick pressures at one of the highest rates in the NFL and Philadelphia must have a plan in place to slow him down. Carter lines up all over New York’s defensive front and will likely win his matchups against Philadelphia’s rookie right tackle Markel Bell. But the Eagles can’t afford for Mailata to also lose his matchups against Carter.

Final Score Predictions

Anthony’s Pick: Giants 27, Eagles 24

The Giants could very well be the flukiest 4-2-1 team of all time. New York has won by more than one possession in just one of their four victories this season, which was only due to a last-second pick-six against the Arizona Cardinals. The Giants are 1-1-1 in three road games this season and the four teams that New York has beaten have a combined record of 8-23. I could see the Eagles keeping things surprisingly close at home.

Josh’s Pick: Giants 20, Eagles 17

The Eagles have lost six straight games and the Giants have lost 13 straight games at The Linc, so something’s got to give. And while I expect Joe Milton to provide an added spark for Philly, it’s hard for me to pick them after so many injuries and disappointment.
