Eagles-Chiefs Week 2 Injury Report: Who Is Playing in Kansas City?
The Philadelphia Eagles will travel on the road for a Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. Both teams are banged up after physical battles last week.
Kansas City exited their Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with several players banged up. Xavier Worthy suffered a shoulder injury after some friendly fire from Travis Kelce. While Worthy likely won’t be placed on injured reserve, his status for Week 2 appears to be in doubt.
While the Eagles escaped with a win over the Cowboys in Week 1, there are a few injuries to watch for. Will Shipley suffered a rib injury and could miss at least one game. Meanwhile, Dallas Goedert is dealing with a knee injury that has also put his status up in the air for Week 2.
Here is the updated injury report for both the Eagles and the Chiefs ahead of their matchup in Week 2.
Eagles Injury Report
Wednesday, September 10th
Dallas Goedert is the most concerning name on this list. Goedert’s knee injury was initially reported by Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94 WIP early Wednesday before the team made it official after practice. Given Goedert’s lengthy injury history, it’s always scary when his name is on the injury report.
Tanner McKee is still dealing with a right thumb injury and didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice. It looks like Sam Howell will be Philadelphia’s QB2 against the Chiefs.
Over the past few days, many stated that Will Shipley was dealing with a rib injury. Yet the team officially listed him as a non-participant due to an oblique injury. That would refer to the muscle in the rib area being injured and not the actual bones. Still not ideal and he could miss time.
After Landon Dickerson was forced to exit Week 1, it’s encouraging to see him at least be a limited participant during Wednesday’s practice. Given Dickerson’s toughness, it would be a surprise if he missed Week 2.
Jalyx Hunt was the only surprise name on Wednesday’s injury report. Hunt was limited due to a hip injury and it’ll certainly be worth monitoring his status over the next few days. Although the Eagles do have roughly 1,000 edge rushers on the current roster.
Thursday, September 11th
Dallas Goedert, Tanner McKee and Will Shipley did not participate in practice on Thursday after not participating on Wednesday. This obviously doesn’t seem great for their chances to play in Week 2.
Landon Dickerson and Jalyx Hunt were both full participants after being limited during Wednesday’s practice. Both players should be good to go on Sunday.
Cameron Williams was a surprise addition to the injury report and he was limited during Thursday’s practice due to a shoulder injury. Could this be the start of a phantom injury to place him on IR at another time to add someone else to the 53-man roster? We’ll see.
Friday, September 12th
Dallas Goedert has officially been ruled out due to a knee injury. After missing seven games last season, Goedert has been bit by the injury bug once again. Now the Eagles will be forced to rely on Grant Calcaterra as TE1, who has yet to improve as a blocker.
Will Shipley was also officially ruled out due to an oblique injury. It seemed like this was the likely path once the Eagles traded for Tank Bigsby. Now it’s just a matter of how long will Shipley be out.
Cameron Williams was the final player to be ruled out, as he is dealing with a shoulder injury. I find it interesting that he miraculously popped up with an injury on Thursday after practicing in full on Wednesday. Could Williams be an injured reserve candidate to free up a roster spot for Cameron Latu or E.J. Jenkins at TE?
Tanner McKee was limited during Friday’s practice and is officially questionable for Week 2. It’s an encouraging sign but my guess is that Sam Howell will still be QB2 for the Eagles against the Chiefs.
Chiefs Injury Report
Wednesday, September 10th
After colliding with a teammate in Week 1, Xavier Worthy exited the game with a shoulder injury. While Worthy’s injury likely won’t warrant a sting on injured reserve, he did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. It seems unlikely that he’ll be able to play in Week 2.
Chiefs rookie WR Jalen Royals suffered a knee injury prior to the regular season that forced him to miss Week 1. It isn’t clear if Royals will return in time to play against the Eagles this week.
Trey Smith and Drue Tranquill were both limited due to knee injuries during Wednesday’s practice. Given their veteran status, my guess is that this was more of a rest day and that they’ll be just fine to play by the time Sunday rolls around.
Nick Bolton, Hollywood Brown, Chamarri Conner, Ashton Gillotte, Omarr Norman-Lott and Jawaan Taylor were all full participants despite a variety of injuries.
Thursday, September 11th
Xavier Worthy returned to practice for the Chiefs on Thursday and was a limited participant. Worthy had his right arm heavily wrapped and padded. If Worthy is somehow able to play on Sunday, it’ll be interesting to see how his shoulder reacts to a few hits.
Jalen Royals did not participate for the second consecutive day, as he continues to deal with a knee injury that he suffered during the preseason.
Trey Smith and Drue Tranquill were both full participants after being limited during Wednesday’s practice.
Friday, September 12th
Xavier Worthy is officially listed as doubtful for Week 2 after being a limited participant in practice on Thursday and Friday. While it was encouraging for Worthy to practice in some capacity, it sure seems like he’ll have to wait at least one more week to make his return.
Jalen Royals was officially ruled out after missing practice all week. Royals hurt his knee during the preseason and has yet to recover from the injury.
