Eagles-49ers Wild Card Round Injury Report: Who Is Playing in Philadelphia?

The Philadelphia Eagles opted to rest their starters and will host the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. Despite the rest, Philadelphia could still be without a few players. The most notable Eagles player currently dealing with an injury is All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson, who hasn’t played since Week 11.

The 49ers are also dealing with plenty of injuries, as they have all season long. There is a real chance that San Francisco could be without two of their best offensive players against the Eagles in the City of Brotherly Love. Therefore, it’s incredibly important to track both team’s practices leading up to their playoff game in the Wild Card Round.

Here is the updated injury report for both the Eagles and the 49ers ahead of Sunday’s matchup.

Eagles Injury Report

Wednesday, January 7th

  • Grant Calcaterra and Brett Toth were the only two players that did not participate during Philadelphia’s practice on Wednesday. Calcaterra took a rough hit in Week 18 and his absence would likely open up the door for Kylen Granson and Cameron Latu at tight end. Meanwhile, Brett Toth provides valuable interior versatility off the bench for Philadelphia’s offensive line.

  • Jalen Carter, Nakobe Dean, Marcus Epps, Dallas Goedert and Lane Johnson were all limited participants during Wednesday’s practice. Johnson’s return to the practice field is the most noteworthy of them all given that he hasn’t practiced at all in several weeks. If Johnson can play on Sunday, he would obviously provide a massive boost for the Eagles upfront.

  • Azeez Ojulari unexpectedly had his 21-day practice window opened up as he can potentially return for Philadelphia’s playoff run. Ojulari was a full participant on Wednesday, along with Jaelan Phillips.

Thursday, January 8th

  • Landon Dickerson received a rest day and did not participate during Thursday’s practice. Brett Toth also missed practice for the second consecutive day due to a concussion that he suffered in Week 18.

  • Grant Calcaterra was upgraded to a limited participant during Thursday’s practice. He joined Jalen Carter, Dallas Goedert and Lane Johnson as the team’s limited participants. Back-to-back limited practices for Johnson is likely a good sign that he’ll be able to play on Sunday.

  • Nakobe Dean and Marcus Epps were upgraded from limited participants to full participants on Thursday. Jaelan Phillips and Azeez Ojulari were full participants for the second consecutive day.

49ers Injury Report

Wednesday, January 7th

  • Trent Williams, Ricky Pearsall, Dee Winters, Keion White and Christian McCaffrey didn’t practice on Wednesday. While McCaffrey enjoyed a rest day, both Williams and Pearsall appear in serious jeopardy of missing Sunday’s game. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Williams’ status is “in doubt” and that Pearsall is in a similar situation. If bother players are out for the 49ers, we could see San Francisco’s offense struggle once again.

  • George Kittle, Yetur Gross-Matos, Luke Gifford and Jordan Elliott were all limited on Wednesday. Elliott’s injury might be the most concerning since he reportedly tweaked his knee during individual drills.

  • Jacob Cowing, Ji’Ayir Brown and Kalia Davis were all full participants on Wednesday and should be good to go for Sunday’s game in Philadelphia.

Thursday, January 8th

  • Luke Gifford was downgraded from a limited participant on Wednesday to did not participate on Thursday. Ricky Pearsall, Dee Winters and Keion White also remained out of practice for the 49ers on Thursday. Pearsall was spotted working on a side field by reporters in attendance at practice.

  • Trent Williams was upgraded to a limited participant during Thursday’s practice and could make a push to play on Sunday. He appeared to be moving relatively well during practice, as several reporters shared videos of Williams working through drills on Thursday.

  • Christian McCaffrey returned to practice as a full participant on Thursday after receiving a rest day on Wednesday.
